Fiber Distributed Data Interface [FDDI]

 is the American National Standard Institute's proposed standard for a 100 Mbps token–passing ring using an optical fibre medium. The FDDI standard has become a focal point for optical technology application in the LAN environment. The market place is filling with products in every category from complete systems to optical transceivers. The 1990s see FDDI as the predominant high speed LAN and backbone.
