Sami G. Al-Ghamdi is a Professor of Sustainable Built Environment and Climate Change Resilient Infrastructure at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he leads the KAUST Urban Lab and serves as Associate Dean for Research and Partnerships. His research focuses on climate change mitigation, carbon management, life cycle assessment, and sustainable infrastructure systems, emphasizing science-based approaches to policy and practice. He has extensive experience in carbon accounting, environmental impact assessment, and developing frameworks that support net-zero transitions and climate governance.
Al-Ghamdi collaborates with government entities, industry partners, and international organizations, and serves as an expert for national and international agencies on carbon management and climate change. He is a Lead Author for the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report. He has supervised dozens of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, secured substantial research funding, and published widely in peer-reviewed journals, advancing sustainable development and climate policy nationally and globally.
