Descripción

The Blood–Brain Barrier and Nanomedicine reviews the development of nanomedicine approaches aimed at crossing the blood–brain barrier (BBB), a significant obstacle in delivering therapeutic agents to the brain and in treating neurological disorders. Key topics such as the physiology of the BBB, alternative protective strategies, and the blood–tumor barrier are covered, providing a thorough overview of key concepts and challenges. Various nanocarriers - including liposomes, niosomes, dendrimers, and metal-based nanoparticles – are detailed, along with different delivery methods, such as nanoemulsions, nanocrystals, and nose-to-brain delivery. Finally, considerations for toxicity, regulatory approval, and clinical trial design, as well as associated challenges are assessed, providing insights into technological developments and translational hurdles.

The Blood–Brain Barrier and Nanomedicine is of interest to researchers and academics in the fields of materials science, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical science and pharmacology, as well as clinicians with an interest in nanomedicine.
