Managing colour from the design stage to the finished product can be a difficult activity as colour perception is subjective and can therefore be inconsistent. Total colour management in textiles covers all aspects of managing colour from the design stage to the final product, ensuring that the designer’s vision is fulfilled in the finished colour. There have been many new developments in the area of colour measurement and colour perception which are discussed. These include discussion of the sensory effect of colour for design and use in product development, and digital colour simulation.

John H Xin
John Xin is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a Charted Colourist of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, UK, and a panel member of the International Editorial Board of Coloration Technology published by the Society of Dyers and Colourists. Prof. Xin's main teaching and research interests include functional and smart textile and garment treatments, new functional material synthesis, nano-encapsulation systems with controllable release, coloration technology, colour science, including colour measurement and quality control, colour communication technology. He has published over 300 book chapters, SCI journal papers, conference proceedings, and patents, and has been invited as keynote speakers and session chairs at numerous international conferences.
