Many diseases have a biochemical basis, and many cause biochemical abnormalities. Clinical biochemistry (also known as chemical pathology) thus plays an important part in the diagnosis and management of many conditions. Clinical Chemistry, now in its tenth edition, covers these topics in detail. Each chapter covers the relevant basic science, along with discussion on diagnostic techniques and patient management, combined with practical case histories and quick-reference summaries. This book has been loved by generations of medical and biomedical science students the world over for its clear and engaging writing style and relevance to practice. It has now been fully updated throughout to reflect the latest field developments.

Clinical Biochemistry is a best-selling textbook, with global sales of well over 80,000. It is used across the world, and has been translated into ten languages. Over six successive editions, it has provided students with just the right amount of information they need to understand and apply clinical biochemistry in a clinical context. It is aimed fairly and squarely at those who are new to the subject, and is suitable for undergraduates across a range of courses including medicine, nursing, biomedical science, pharmacy and life sciences. Junior doctors will also find it useful. The seventh edition retains the same practical and patient-centred approach that has made previous editions so popular. Despite its accessibility, there is no 'dumbing-down': all essential information is covered. The illustrations, which are a major part of its visual appeal, have been revisited and updated. This book is an ideal source for understanding the background to biochemical tests and how they should be interpreted. It will help you apply your learning in the clinical context. The same basic structure that has proved successful previously has been retained; sections on core biochemistry, endocrinology and specialised investigations follow an introductory section.

Clinical Chemistry, 9th Edition considers what happens to the body’s chemistry when affected by disease. It provides introductory coverage of the scientific basis for biochemistry tests routinely used in medicine - including tests for the assessment of organ function, diagnosis and monitoring disease activity and therapy efficacy. Each topic area begins with a concise description of the underlying physiological and biochemical principles and then applies them to patient investigation and management. The regular use of case histories helps further emphasise clinical relevance and chapter key points, as well as provide a useful starting point for examination revision. The clear and engaging writing style appreciated by generations of readers has been retained in this ninth edition, while the content has been thoroughly updated throughout. The approach and scope of this trusted text makes it ideal for integrated medical curricula, for medical training and for students and practitioners of clinical and biomedical science. The complementary eBook version, including additional cases and self-assessment material, completes this superb learning package.
